Many people remember the Oscar-winning epic, "Titanic," that was directed by James Cameron. However, time certainly does fly, and now this movie is more than 10 years old. Cameron has moved on to other projects, naturally, including a remake of "Solaris" and the continuation of the "Terminator" series.

His latest movie, "Avatar," is a fantastic science fiction journey set in the future. A group of pioneer humans land on a new planet, as they seek out a very precious mineral. They encounter native beings, the Na'vi, and initially fail to understand their culture.

Cameron recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his project. He explained that he was inspired by "every single science fiction book [he] read as a kid," as he wrote the script for "Avatar." Cameron further revealed he "wanted to do an old fashioned jungle adventure, just set it on another planet, and play by those rules."

When asked if he meant to make a political film about one culture subduing another, Cameron told the news provider that politics shone though "only in the very broadest sense of how we as a Western technological civilization deal with indigenous culture."

"Avatar" will be screened in 3D when it hits theaters in December.
