'Weeds' to end after eight seasons

Showtime's hit series "Weeds" has been one of the network's most popular shows for years, but now it's coming to an end. The series is set to wrap up its eighth season later this year, and according to Entertainment Weekly, it will be its last. "Weeds" has been one of Showtime's flagship series for years and helped bring the network considerable critical acclaim. Starring Mary-Louise Parker as a housewife-turned-drug dealer, the show was groundbreaking at the time and helped pave the way for other series that came after it. "From a creative standpoint, the show broke a bunch of barriers," Lionsgate TV Group president Kevin Beggs told the publication. "It became one of the most talked about cable comedies and ushered in a new era. [Creator] Jenji's unique voice skewered hypocrisy; whether attitudes towards drug use, racism, sexism or suburbia." Although "Weeds" is on its way out, Showtime will have several other popular series running throughout the next several years. The sixth season of "Californication" is set to premiere, and the seventh season of "Dexter" is slated for a September 30 premiere. Featured Titles: Weeds: Season Seven DVD $20.99
