Print this article With the success of last year's "The Muppets," filmmakers would be wise to bring some of Jim Henson's other famous puppets to life, and it looks like they are inching ever closer to doing so. A movie version of the popular '80s TV show "Fraggle Rock" is in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter
The film has been in development for several years. Its rights were picked up in 2008 by The Weinstein Company and the studio planned to release it in 2009. However, the rights were eventually sold to New Regency, and now it is closer to becoming a reality.
Most recently, the film has tapped Jim Byrkit and Alex Manugian to pen the script, the publication reports. The duo earned considerable acclaim for their work on "Rango," which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
There's no word yet on when the finished product will hit theaters, but until then families can check out some of the best children's movies of the last decade including "Up" and "How to Train Your Dragon."
