Print this article Movies have sometimes used non-actors to give the films a more realistic feel, and nowhere was that more true than in the 2012 film "Act of Valor." The action movie welcomed six real-life Navy SEALs to the set, making it one of the most unique releases of the year. The new release DVD hit shelves June 5.
After spending the night with their families, the highly-skilled Navy SEAL Team Seven receives their next mission. A Chechen terrorist named Abu Shabal is working closely with a drug smuggler Christo, who is responsible for the death of one CIA agent and the kidnapping of another. Their mission? Extract the agent being held hostage by Christo and his men.
The team jumps into the Costa Rican jungle, and although they're able to rescue their target, Christo escapes to meet back up with Shabal in the Ukraine. The SEALs must act quickly to ensure the duo doesn't pull off another terrorist attack.
"Act of Valor" offers a realistic glimpse into the life of soldiers, and is one of many movies over the last several years to do so. "The Hurt Locker" won Best Picture while "Jarhead" offered a look into the first Gulf War.
