The 1991 hit "The Silence of the Lambs" is remembered as one of the best thrillers of all time, and a prequel to the film may be headed to the small screen. The series is being developed by Lifetime and would follow the earlier days of FBI agent Clarice Starling, famously played by Jodie Foster in the original movie, according to TV Guide.

The series is going to produced by MGM and is tentatively titled "Clarice," but there are few other details available at the moment. Interestingly, its development comes as NBC readies another spin off series based on the film. "Hannibal," is gearing up for a 13-episode season, but it will not feature the character of Clarice.

Though this marks the first time "The Silence of the Lambs" heads to television, there have been both prequel and sequel films. The 2002 film "Red Dragon" took place before the original's events and starred the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ralph Fiennes.

There is no word yet on when "Clarice" will debut, but until then fans of thrillers may want to check out the classic series "The X-Files."
