Print this article Even casual hockey fans know that most teams have one player whose sole purpose is to hit the others on the ice. They may not get all the glory of the goal scorers, but they serve just as an important of a role. The so-called enforcer finally gets his due in the 2011 sports comedy movie "Goon," which hits shelves on May 29.
Doug (Seann William Scott) never thought about playing hockey, but that all changed after attending a game with his friend Pat (Jay Baruchel). Doug beats up an opposing player that climbs into the stands and he soon finds himself on the roster of his local minor league hockey team as an enforcer.
Doug rises quickly through the ranks and eventually makes it up to the major leagues. Though he becomes popular among fans, his tactics sometimes rub the star players the wrong way. And with his team battling for a playoff spot, Doug needs to step up his game to win the respect of his fellow hockey players.
Sports comedies have long been some of the funniest films around, with movies like "Caddyshack," and "Major League."
