(We do not collect these names or emails!)It was recently announced that Outkast's Andre 3000 has been tapped to play Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming biopic, but the movie may run into some obstacles on its road to completion. Most significantly, the Hendrix estate likely won't hand over the rights to his songs, meaning none of the guitarists legendary music will make it on screen, Billboard.com reports.
The Hendrix estate has famously been very reluctant to allow any use of his music, and those tasked with preserving the singer's legacy aren't changing their tune for the movie either. While they are not opposed to the movie's creation, they feel like they need to be involved in the process before signing off on any songs.
"Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation," the company said in a statement.
It Experience Hendrix ever does sign off on the film, it will likely be a big hit. Previous musician biopics, including "Walk the Line" and "Ray," have been both critical and commercial successes.
