Film adaptation of Clifford The Big Red Dog in the works

Clifford The Big Red Dog has been one of the most popular children's book and television series for years, and now the iconic pooch is headed to the big screen. Universal is reportedly teaming up with Illumination Entertainment to create the live-action and animation hybrid, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story has been one of the most frequently-told in children's literature for decades. The enormous canine first appeared in 1963, when author Norman Bridwell released the debut title. Since then, it has become a favorite among many kids and even spawned a television series that debuted in 2000. Although there is no director attached to the project just yet, the script will be written by Matt Lopez, who has penned a number of other popular family movies including "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." Film adaptations of children's books have been some of the most popular movies in recent years. In addition to the recent success of "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," audiences enjoyed the likes of "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."
