(We do not collect these names or emails!)To many people across the globe, May 4 is just another day. But to the legions of "Star Wars" fans, it's a reason to celebrate. The date has become an unofficial "Star Wars Day" due to a pun created by clever fans of the series. "May the Fourth be With You," a slight variation on the film's iconic line, has likely left many sci-fi fans marking the occasion with a viewing of "The Empire Strikes Back."
Although the witticism may have some "Star Wars" worshipers celebrating May 4, there are some others who honor the film on another day later this month. To some people, May 25 is the actual "Star Wars Day," because that's the date the first film hit theaters in 1977, according to The Washington Post.
The faux-holiday has taken off in recent years. What was once a inside joke in the "Star Wars" community is now celebrated by many big-name companies that offer discounts in honor of the classic movie. According to the Post, everyone from Williams-Sonoma to Lego is marking the occasion.
Anybody looking to celebrate May 4 by watching "The Return of the Jedi" may want to check out some of George Lucas' other films including "American Graffiti."
