One of the best musicals of all time, "Singin' in the Rain," turns 60 this month. Still, despite the popularity of the Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds flick, there are many aspects of its production that fans may be unfamiliar with. In honor of the film's recent milestone,  AOL's Moviefone recently shared some little-known facts about the film.

1. Although the film featured a lot of tunes, including the now-iconic title number, the movie actually included two original songs: "Make 'em Laugh" and "Moses." In fact, the song "Singin' in the Rain" was released in 1929 and had been popular years before the movie's release.

2. The lead female role of Kathy Selden (Reynolds) almost went to several other big-name actresses. Judy Garland was considered for the role, but the relatively unknown Reynolds eventually got the nod thanks to Kelly's insistence, the website reports.

3. The movie almost had more of a Western feel to it. According to Moviefone, the was originally a plan to have a lengthy Western musical number, and Kelly's character Don Lockwood was intended to be a cowboy actor.

Musical fans looking to brush up on their Gene Kelly films may want to check out "An American in Paris" and "Anchors Aweigh."
