A ninth season for the hit NBC series "The Office" just became a bit more in question. There had already been some doubt as to whether the show will continue after this season, and now it looks like star Ed Helms may be leaving, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Helms has joined the pilot for a Fox comedy series that stars fellow "Office" actor Mindy Kaling as a Bridget Jones-esque character. Helms is expected to play her love interest, and if the series takes off, it could mean the end of the "The Office." "Saturday Night Live" veteran Bill Hader is also attached to the project.

Helms' work on Kalings new series comes soon after Paul Lieberstein, "The Office's" showrunner, announced that he's going to focus on the possible spin-off series starring Rainn Wilson's Dwight. The decision could be a big hit to the show, as Lieberstein also stars as human resources rep Toby Flenderson.

Although the future of "The Office" is in doubt, fans can watch plenty of their favorite episodes through TV on DVD. They may also want to check out similar shows including "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock."
