'The Descendants' blends humor, tragedy

One of the hardest things for filmmakers to do is balance drama and comedy, and the creative minds behind "The Descendants" managed to do just that. Equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious, the Oscar-winning film comes to DVD March 13. Matt King's (George Clooney) life is in turmoil. He's a wealthy lawyer living in Honolulu, but his wife is in a coma and he is being pressured by his relatives to sell 25,000 acres of land on Kaua'i. Add to that the fact that he has to navigate being the lone parent to his two daughters, and he's at a crossroads. Everything is brought to a head when Matt's daughter Alex (Shailene Woodley) reveals that his wife had been unfaithful in the time leading up to her being in a coma. Now, Matt has to come to terms with the fact his wife may never recover all while dealing with emotions of a spurned husband. The film is widely regarded as one of Clooney's best performances.
