After eight seasons, the future of "Grey's Anatomy" appears to be in jeopardy. The show's two biggest stars have yet to get their contracts renewed and its creator is not sure when, and if, that might happen, TV Guide reports.

In an interview with the publication, creator Shonda Rhimes discussed what's in store for the popular medical drama, but most of the conversation was focused around whether stars Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey would be back for a ninth season. Despite their importance to the series, she's not sure about their future.

"I have no idea. I have my fingers crossed," she told TV Guide. "What I think is really lovely is that everybody wants to come back. There's [money] stuff happening. I am [confident], but I have a plan in place for the finale that can occur regardless of who is staying."

Though the future of the series is in doubt, fans can relive all their favorite episodes thanks to TV on DVD. They may also want to check out similar series including "Private Practice" and "Nurse Jackie."
