The Academy Awards are less than one week away, but there were some other accolades that stole the spotlight this weekend. The Writers Guild of America gave out its awards on Sunday, and there were a number of familiar names that took the top spots in both television and film, according to Deadline.

When it came to the small screen, both "Breaking Bad" and "Modern Family" came home with awards for best writing in a drama and comedy, respectively. It's no surprise given that both series have come to be critical favorites over their runs. "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan credited his star with the show's success.

"We wouldn't have a show without Bryan Cranston," he said while accepting the award, according to the website.

For the silver screen winners, prolific writer Woody Allen took home the Best Original Screenplay award for "Midnight in Paris," which is up for an Oscar for Best Picture. "The Descendants" took home the prize for Best Adapted Screenplay.
