Over the last several years, few shows have been more popular than the medical drama "House," but after eight seasons the series is coming to an end. The show's executive producers recently announced that its current season will be its last, The Huffington Post reports.

The decision may not come as much of a surprise to some fans of the show. There was almost no eighth season after budget cuts last summer put its production in jeopardy, and star Hugh Laurie was only under contract through the current season. Not only that, but Lisa Edelstein, who had been with the show since day one, did not come back for season eight.

"A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House," Kevin Reilly, Fox's president of entertainment, said in a statement. "For eight seasons, the entire 'House' team has given us - and fans around the world - some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television."

Though the show may be ending, it can be relived through TV on DVD, and fans can check out similar series including "Bones" and "Grey's Anatomy."
