While many people may have been fighting the masses at the grocery store to prepare for the Super Bowl on Sunday, it didn't stop some individuals from going to the movies.

MTV reports that "Chronicle" took the number one spot this past weekend after making $22 million at the box office. According to the news source, this is the fourth highest debut during a Super Bowl weekend. The film takes a page out of other recent movies that have found success in the box office by filming it as though it was found footage.

Despite not reaching the same opening weekend figures as other found footage films such as "Paranormal Activity" and "The Blair Witch Project," the Super Bowl weekend is always slow for movies. In comparison to last year, box office receipts were up 30 percent overall.

Unlike the most recent, "The Devil Inside," "Chronicle" is getting some praise. According to New York Magazine, the film did not necessarily have to go the footage-found route, although this is a cheaper way to make movies, but it was still an overall enjoyable experience to watch.
