Susan Sarandon to guest star on 'The Big C'

The popular Showtime series "The Big C" is about to welcome an Oscar-winning actress to its ranks. Susan Sarandon is expected to join the dark comedy, which stars Laura Linney as a woman recently diagnosed with cancer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sarandon is expected to star as a cancer survivor named Joy who attempts to inspire and motivate others with the disease. There's no word yet on the exact nature of her character's role or how long it will last, but it will span several episodes and have an impact on the main character. "She makes Cathy [Linney] question whether she's doing enough with her own cancer experience," creator Darlene Hunt told the publication. Sarandon is just the latest big-name celebrity to guest star on the show. Other actors who have appeared include Cynthia Nixon, Gabourey Sibide and Oliver Platt. Fans of "The Big C" may want to check out other popular Showtime series including "Dexter" and longtime favorite "Weeds," both of which have been renewed for additional seasons.
