The first three "Paranormal Activity" movies were popular among horror movie fans, so it should come as no surprise that Paramount recently announced plans for a fourth film in the franchise. The movie highlights a long list of much-anticipated films set to be released by the studio in 2012 including "World War Z."

The franchise has been a big hit for the studio, which was the highest earning in North America, with its 16 releases amassing $1.6 billion. In fact the latest installment, "Paranormal Activity 3," brought in almost $108 million, MTV.com reports.

"We produce pictures that aspire to entertain audiences around the world, while at the same time we have sought to find innovative ways to reach movie-goers in this changing entertainment environment," said Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey.

To check out some of Paramount's other most popular films released in 2011, fans may want to watch "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which brought in more than $352.4 million and the Oscar-nominated "True Grit."
