"Dexter" has long been one of Showtime's most popular series but due to contract negotiations with star Michael C. Hall, any subsequent seasons appeared to be in jeopardy. However, the both parties have agreed to terms and the crime drama will continue for another two seasons, Deadline reports.

The show is currently in the middle of its sixth season, with the finale slated for December 18. The agreement calls for two more 12-episode seasons, with the seventh starting production sometime next year. Though there were tense negotiations, officials from the network believe both sides had no other choice due to its popularity.

"The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape," Showtime entertainment president David Nevins told the website.

In addition to "Dexter," Showtimes has a number of other great series that fans should check out on TV on DVD including the David Duchovny vehicle "Californication," and "Weeds," which was also just renewed for an eighth season.
