Print this article J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg are two of the best-known filmmakers in Hollywood, so when they teamed up for the science fiction movie "Super 8," it's no surprise that the result was something special. The exciting new release DVD hits shelves November 22.
While filming a zombie movie, a group of children in a small Ohio town witness the massive derailment of a train caused by a pick-up truck on the tracks. The kids notice that something escapes from one of the train's cars in the aftermath, and the wreckage is littered with strange debris. The scene gets even more complicated when the U.S. Air Force descends on the crash and the kids run away before they're noticed.
For days afterward, strange things start to happen in the town, and the Air Force leads an evacuation to nearby base. Concerned that something is up, the children, led by Joe (Joel Courtney) and Louis (Ron Eldard) begin to investigate, and they're shocked by what they find.
"Super 8" received comparisons to some of the best science fiction movies of all-time including the 1982 classic "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
