Most fans know Eric Stonestreet for his loveable role as Cam on "Modern Family," but they recently got a much different look at the affable actor. Stonestreet appeared on the most recent episode of "American Horror Story" in a role much different from what many television viewers are used to seeing.

Stonestreet played Derek, a man who turns to Ben (played by Dylan McDermott) for help getting over a fear of an urban legend. Other than the obvious difference that Stonestreet appeared in a dramatic role versus his comedic turn in "Modern Family," he says the characters personalities are starkly different.

“Derek is meek, timid, scared, unsure of himself, embarrassed and ashamed of where his life is," Stonestreet told The Hollywood Reporter. "He has this unreasonable fear of children's ghost stories that has crippled him."

Stonestreet's appearance marks another milestone for "American Horror Story," which has been a big hit with viewers in its first season. Fans of the series may want to check out creator Ryan Murphy's other shows "Glee" and "Nip/Tuck."
