Ewan McGregor leads the way in 'Beginners'

Every now and then, there comes a movie that deftly blends comedy and drama to provide an insightful look into the human experience. Such is the case with the 2010 movie "Beginners," which uses an all-star cast to examine life, death and romance. The new release DVD hits shelves November 15. The film follows how Oliver (Ewan McGregor) copes with the loss of his father Hal. Through a series of flashbacks the movie shows how Oliver's relationship with his father changed over time, including how he reacted to his coming out of the closet and finding a boyfriend in the wake of his mother's death. After a while, Oliver meets Anna (Melanie Laurent) and the two begin dating. However, both have unresolved feelings about their fathers,which which they both have to address before it brings down their relationship. Though it may be at times serious, "Beginners' has its funnier moments much like the Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet vehicle "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind." One of the best similar titles is "Little Miss Sunshine," which earned a nomination for Best Picture.
