The writers of "Zombieland" recently announced they are working on a small-screen adaptation of their popular film, and "Punisher" is going to get the same treatment. The comic book-turned movie is being developed by Fox for a television show, Deadline reports.

The project is being led by "Criminal Minds" executive producer Edward Allen Bernero and is going to be in the format of an hour-long police procedural. Specifically, main character Frank Castle will be working as a New York City police officer during the day and the crime fighting antihero The Punisher by night.

According to the website, this is not the first time that producers have created a television show based on a Marvel Comics character. Most famously, "The Incredible Hulk" was a hit in the late 70s, and more recently "Alias" made a star out of Jennifer Garner.

Comic book movies have been some of the most popular titles in the last decade including the newly-released "Captain America: The First Avenger," and the 2010 hit superhero movies "Iron Man 2."
