California filmmaker producing low-budget 'Halloween' reboot

There has been no lack of sequels and reboots of the horror movie class "Halloween," but one California filmmaker is doing things a little bit different. Derek Hill is filming "Halloween: Vengeance," and he's doing it all for just about $500, the Visalia Times Delta reports. Hill is an independent filmmaker who has been making movies for more than 15 years. He kept costs low by hiring local actors to star in the movie and decided to return to his home town of Visalia, California to shoot it. Though there is a lot of pressure rebooting a classic franchise, Hill is up to the challenge. "It's very intimidating to walk into a project like this knowing how many fans of the films there are out there. It's going to be make or break," he told the news source. "There is no middle ground with this film because there is such a huge, devoted fan base." The timing is especially good for the filming as Halloween is right around the corner. Horror movie buffs may want to check out some classics including "The Shining" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" to get in the festive mood.
