Print this article "Gears of War 3" hit stores on September 20 and although it has been out for just over a week, the game as already sold more than three million copies. The announcement was made in a blog post by Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb, and the achievement pushes the franchise past the one billion mark, IGN.com reports.
The impressive sales statistics already make "Gears of War 3" the best-selling game of 2011, though it is still a far cry from the game's predecessor, which sold two million copies in its first weekend alone when it came out in 2008.
According to Hyrb, the figures places "Gears 3 as the biggest game of 2011" while "catapulting the franchise beyond one billion dollars in lifetime sales."
Still, the game may have some competition on its hands later this year. According to USA Today, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" is expected to be the most sought-after game this holiday season.
