Reboot of the '80s show 'Beauty and the Beast' coming to The CW

The classic tale of "Beauty and the Beast" is getting a reboot, but not in the way that most fans might think. The CW is planning on updating the short-lived live-action series that ran from 1987 to 1990, TV Line reports. The original series, which ended a year before the popular animated film, starred Ron Perlman as the titular beast and Linda Hamilton as his love interest. Though it shared a name with the movie, the series did not follow any of the same plot but was beloved by a small cadre of fans. The new version will be an updated telling of the story, and the script is planned to be written by Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper, who have both penned popular TV shows in the past. The pair will also serve as executive producers, according to the news source. The three season run of "Beauty and the Beast" brings to mind a number of classic '80s shows that have lived on for years after they went off the air. Series such as "Cheers" and "The Greatest American Hero," still hold a special place in the heart of many viewers.
