Although the release of the much-anticipated "The Amazing Spider-man" is still a year away, there are already plans for a sequel. Entertainment Weekly reports that Sony has already tentatively set a second movie for a May 2014 release.

Not too much is known about the specifics, but many have speculated the Andrew Garfield will be back in the starring role. Those close to the situation have said that the decision to make a sequel already shows how optimistic the studio is.

"It speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment," a source told the publication.

As for the first film, Garfield will be joined by a pretty impressive cast. Emma Stone is slated to play the love interest Gwen Stacy, and Martin Sheen will be playing Peter Parker's Uncle Ben. Rhys Ifans, Sally Field and Dennis Leary will also be appearing.

Superhero movies have been among some of the most popular of the last decade. Those who want to check out a few of the best may want to watch "Hellboy" or "The Dark Knight."
