The indie musical "Once" was a big hit when it came out in 2006, thanks in large part to that fact that its two stars were relatively unknown. It looks like the movie's director John Carney is taking things in a new direction for his next movie, as Scarlett Johansson has been cast in the lead role.

Paste magazine reports that the movie, titled "Can a Song Save Your Life?" will star the "Lost in Translation" actress as an up-and-coming singer who falls in love with a record executive, who may be played by Mark Ruffalo.

Johansson is no stranger to singing, either. She teamed up with signer-songwriter Pete Yorn in 2009 to release the album Break Up, which had a respectable showing on the Billboard charts, so it's no surprise Carney had a very promising meeting with the actress.

“I went out to Los Angeles to meet Scarlett a couple of months ago," he told the publication "She was everything you could imagine - very hot, elegant and she’s really smart."

Musicals have been making a comeback as of late, with several popular films coming out over the last several years, with title such as "Burlseque" and "Nine" being hits among fans.
