Print this article The cast of the much-anticipated 3D version of "The Great Gatsby" is continuing to grow. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Baz Luhrmann has cast Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan, one of the last remaining parts in the star-studded project.
Edgerton is likely the last piece of the puzzle for the movie, which is set to start filming in August. Leonardo DiCaprio leads the cast as Jay Gatsby, and Tobey Maguire has been tapped to play Nick Carraway, who narrates the story in the famous novel. "An Education" actress Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher have also been confirmed to be starring in the movie.
Edgerton was not Lurhmann's first choice for the role, however. The news source reports that he had targeted Ben Affleck, but "The Town" star could not work out scheduling conflicts and had to drop out of contention.
Adaptations of popular novels have turned out to be some of the most classic movies of all time, including "Gone with the Wind," and "Of Mice and Men."
