First, Alec Baldwin was in for the film adaptation of the popular musical "Rock of Ages," then he was out. However, according to Reuters, the raspy-voiced actor is back on board for the project, which is slated for release in June 2012.

Baldwin told producers about a week ago that he had decided to drop out due to medical reasons. Executives were able to persuade him to come to a cast reading a few days later to see how he felt. It must have been pretty good, because the next day he told them that he was back in.

According to the news source, Baldwin is cast as Dennis Dupree, the owner of a nightclub on the Sunset Strip which serves as the main setting of the musical. The popular show pays homage to the songs and culture of the 1980s, and the film also has gotten an impressive cast of A-list talent. Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti and Catherine Zeta-Jones are all on board.

Zeta-Jones is no stranger to film adaptations of musicals, having starred in the Academy Award-winning "Chicago." Fans of that classic movie may also want to check out "Hairspray" or "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."
