Print this article Peter Pan got a unique update in the early '90s thanks to "Hook," but it looks like the classic story will soon get a dark twist. Aaron Eckhart has signed on to play Captain Hook in the upcoming "Pan," which is expected to be a modern take on the popular children's story, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The story will offer a different point of view on the tale. While Captain Hook is generally regarded as the villain in most tellings of the fable, "Pan" will present the pirate as the hero. According to the news source, Hook's character will be a detective on the search for a childlike kidnapper (Peter Pan).
The movie's is expected to start shooting this fall, and the cast is continually growing. "Lord of the Rings" star Sean Bean is confirmed to play Hook's right hand man, Smee, and AnnaSophia Robb has been tapped to play Wendy.
Remakes of classic movies that put a spin on the original often become big hits. Titles such as "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Brothers Grimm" have become favorites among moviegoers.
