(We do not collect these names or emails!)Gamers eagerly awaiting the latest console release from Nintendo appear to be in luck. The company recently announced that it will unveil its follow up to the wildly popular Wii at the E3 Expo in June, with a release scheduled for sometime in 2012, IGN.com reports.
The system, known as Project Cafe, is expected to be a substantial competitor to powerful consoles including PlayStation 3 and XBox 360, something that the Nintendo Wii lacked. Additionally, the system is expected to be backwards compatible with the Wii so that gamers will not have to go out and buy new titles. According to the news source, early reports have it featuring a 6-inch touch screen display complete with dual analog sticks.
Though little else is known, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata hinted recently that it might hinge on 3D technology, something the company has tried out with the Nintendo 3DS.
"We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles," he told Bloomberg.
With the backwards compatibility, consumers wills till be able to play some of their favorite Nintendo Wii games such as "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" and "Mario Kart Wii."
