'The Hunger Games' gets a release date

Fans of "The Hunger Games" trilogy, the young adult novels written by Suzanne Collins, are undoubtedly counting down the minutes until the big screen adaptation hits theaters. Sadly, it looks as though they're going to have to wait a little longer, as the movie won't make it to the silver screen for more than a year. Entertainment Weekly reports that the first film in the series, which will be helmed by "Seabiscuit" and "Pleasantville" director Gary Ross, officially has a release date of March 23, 2012. "The Hunger Games" revolves around the character Katniss Everdeen and is set in a post-apocalyptic world. In the first book, Katniss is forced to join 23 other young children and fight to the death in a brutal televised match.
