Print this article Diane Lane is undoubtedly fantastic in all her films, but most would agree that her performance in "Secretariat" is nothing short of award-worthy. Thankfully, the engrossing biopic will be available for purchase January 25.
Lane stars as Penny Chenery, a housewife who agrees to take over her father's Virginia stable despite her lack of knowledge in horseracing. She soon meets veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), who helps her prepare the colt Secretariat for competition.
Eventually the horse, nicknamed "Big Red," becomes the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, leading Chenery to be anointed the "first lady of racing" in the male-dominated field.
Although Lane surprisingly failed to earn any prestigious awards for her work in "Secretariat," the actress has garnered other accolades throughout her illustrious career. In fact, she was nominated for an Oscar for the 2002 drama "Unfaithful" and was up for a Golden Globe for her performance in the beloved 2003 romantic comedy "Under the Tuscan Sun."
Lane is currently shooting "Cinema Verite," a drama slated for release in 2012.
