Print this article Michael Douglas has recently been taking time off from acting to recover from his cancer treatments, but it looks as though the movie industry hasn't forgotten his cinematic accomplishments.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the "Basic Instinct" and "The American President" actor is set to receive an Icon Award at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival, which will take place next month.
"We're thrilled to have the opportunity to honor Michael Douglas at a time when both his creative prowess and his contributions to world cinema have never been more evident - or more deserving of celebration," festival director Darryl Macdonald told the news outlet. "Simply put, he's an American treasure."
The Icon Award honors a performer or creative talent who has developed an esteemed body of work throughout their career, the news source reports.
Douglas can be seen next on the big screen in "Haywire," an action-thriller also starring Channing Tatum and Ewan McGregor. The film is slated for release in April 2011.
