George Clooney is magnificent in "The American"

If there's any performer out there who can sell a film, it's George Clooney. The esteemed A-lister flexes his acting skills once again in "The American," an unforgettable espionage drama that will be available on DVD starting today. Clooney stars as Jack, a master assassin who is on assignment in Sweden. However, the job soon goes bust, and Jack hides out in a rustic Italian village in order to let things pass. While enjoying the small-town comforts of his new surroundings, Jack befriends Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and dives head first into a relationship with Mathilde (Thekla Reuten). However, this relaxing life may be ultimately harmful for him. Although most may know that Clooney is an incredibly respected actor - he took home the Academy Award in 2006 for his performance in "Syriana," - it turns out he's talented in other areas as well. In fact, he received two Oscar nominations for the 2005 drama he directed, "Good Night, and Good Luck."
