Those who love to sink their teeth into a fantastic vampire story should take note - "The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season" will be available on DVD August 31.

While the drama may be reminiscent of the "Twilight" movies, the show, which is based on the books by L.J. Smith, is completely original. It tells the story of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a teen who is dealing with the sudden death of her parents.

When Elena returns to Mystic Falls High School, she meets and falls for Stefan (Paul Wesley), a vampire. However, it isn't long before his older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), shows up and Elena's life grows ever the more complicated.

While "The Vampire Diaries" features a cast of fresh-faced performers, the actors have been involved in number of noteworthy projects. In fact, Dobrev recently appeared alongside Amanda Seyfried in "Chloe," while Somerhalder played Boone Carlyle on "Lost" during its first season.

Somerhalder will be seen next in "Cradlewood," a fantasy thriller due out in theaters next year.ADNFCR-2673-ID-19930320-ADNFCR
