There is some sad news for the film industry today - Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Neal has died.

According to CNN.com, the 84-year-old former starlet passed away Sunday at her home in Edgartown, Massachusetts. The cause of her death was not disclosed to the media.

"The theatrer and movie world has lost a great talent but, at the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, we have also lost a friend," the health center which bears her name said in a statement to the press.

Neal is best known for playing Alma Brown in the 1963 western drama "Hud," a performance which won her the Oscar. After her victory, she suffered three strokes and, for a short time, lost her ability to speak.

However, the resilient woman recovered and later starred in "The Subject was Roses," a1968 drama which earned her another Academy Award nomination.

It looks like Neal's impact on the cinematic and health industries will be long-lasting.

"We will always remember her elegance and sincerity. She will be greatly missed," said a statement from the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, where the Neal Rehabilitation Center is based.
