Print this article Rumors have been swirling that "Casino Royale" actor Daniel Craig would be offered the coveted lead role in the American remake of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and it looks like the grapevine has it right.
According to Paste Magazine, the blue-eyed actor will be playing Mikael Blomkvist in the first film of Hollywood's take on The Millennium Trilogy, three films which will be based on Stieg Larsson's now-iconic crime novels.
As exciting this news may be, the lucky actress who will fill Lisbeth Salander's shoes has yet to be determined. Entertainment Weekly reports that the part of the quiet-but-brilliant computer hacker was first offered to Natalie Portman, who turned it down. Producers of the film are now reportedly deciding between four relatively unknown actresses.
"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" will be directed by "Se7en" helmer David Fincher.
Craig hasn't appeared on screen since the 2008 action-drama "Defiance." However, his next thriller, "Dream House," will be in theaters in 2011.
