(We do not collect these names or emails!)There's no doubt that home audiences have adored HBO for its nearly-infallible television entertainment, but this year was an especially great one for the paid cable network.
With 101 Emmy Awards, HBO has accrued the most nominations of any network this year.
Leading the pack is "The Pacific," a 10-part miniseries that amassed 24 nominations, including Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries and Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries. The show, which is narrated by Tom Hanks, takes place during World War II and is based on two memoirs by U.S. marines - "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" by Eugene Sledge and "Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie."
"Temple Grandin," which stars Claire Danes in an incredibly challenging role, received 15 nominations. The biopic follows a young woman with autism who fought for animal rights, and is adapted from true story. The made-for-television movie garnered honors for Outstanding Lead actress in a Miniseries for Movie for Danes, as well as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for David Strathairn, who played Professor Carlock.
Not so surprisingly, "True Blood" picked up five nominations. The popular show, which stars Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse and Stephen Moyer as her vampiric soulmate Bill Compton, is in the running for Outstanding Drama Series. The show takes place in an alternate world where vampires exist and have assimilated into society, where they thrive on laboratory-produced blood.
Once again, Larry David was bestowed with several nominations for his long-running hit comedy romp, "Curb Your Enthusiasm." The show, which has no script and relies on actors improvising their way through strange and awkward setups, was honored for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for David, as well as Outstanding Comedy Series. David has been nominated for the prestigious acting award for this show twice before, although he has never won it.
The 62nd Prime Time Emmy Awards will take place on August 29, and will be hosted by "Saturday Night Live" alum Jimmy Fallon. Previous emcees include Neil Patrick Harris, Conan O'Brien and Ellen DeGeneres.
