Nicolas Cage has played everything from a screenwriter in "Adaptation" to a treasure seeker in "National Treasure," so it's no wonder he's undeniably convincing as a magical wizard in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." Of course, the icon has CGI and a bizarre blonde wig to help him along the way, but who cares? Cage remains one of the most entertaining film stars out there today, and his charming persona is infectious.

In his most recent appearance on the silver screen, Cage plays Balthazar, a wizard who is doing his best to keep the evil forces of the world at bay. When we first meet the guy it's the year 740 AD, and he's one of Merlin the Magician's apprentices. After fighting with Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) and Morgana Le Fay (Alice Krige), two evildoers who want to unleash their sinister badness upon the world, Merlin seals them in a nesting doll, and they remain there for centuries.

Fast forward to the present day, and Balthazar soon meets Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a 19-year-old guy who appears to be the Prime Merlinian, a person who can defeat the dark forces of the universe. However, Dave has accidentally released Horvath and Morgana from their doll, and now he and Balthazar must band together to fight them and save the world.

Along the way, Dave also tries to woo Becky (Teresa Palmer), the object of his affections. He has been crushing hard on her ever since they were in grade school. Will these two crazy kids ever get together? This is a Hollywood movie, so if there wasn't a shared kiss between the pair, it would be a sin.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub and produced by the one-and-only Jerry Bruckheimer, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is mindless entertainment at its best. After all, Bruckheimer is the man behind big action flicks such as "Con Air" and "Armageddon," so would you expect anything less?

The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is rated PG and is 109 minutes long. It contains scenes involving swearing and intense action.ADNFCR-2673-ID-19895513-ADNFCR
