Edward Norton has several projects lined up at the moment, but the role he didn't get may be garnering him the most attention.

According to Access Hollywood, Marvel Comics has confirmed that the Academy Award-nominee will not be asked back to portray the Incredible Hulk in "The Avengers," which is expected to be released in theaters in 2012.

"We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members," Kevin Feige, president of production of Marvel Studios, said in a statement.

Norton previously played the green, muscular superhero in "The Incredible Hulk," the 2008 action film that also starred Liv Tyler and Tim Roth.

The decision to refrain from offering the respected actor the coveted role has mystified some movie insiders, as Norton has received endless accolades for his performances throughout his career. In fact, he was nominated for an Oscar for "American History X," and "Primal Fear."ADNFCR-2673-ID-19888648-ADNFCR
