"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is an exhilarating film

While Stieg Larsson will go down in infamy for penning the "Millennium Series," the trilogy that chronicles the adventures of the strange but stalwart Lisbeth Salander, it looks like the film versions of his tales are also doing fantastically well. "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," the first installation of the planned franchise, will be available for DVD purchase on Tuesday, July 6. Noomi Rapace stars as Salander, who is a quiet, troubled woman. However, her life takes an interesting turn when she crosses paths with Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist), a journalist. Blomkvist has been hired to solve the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, a young girl whose billionaire uncle still obsesses about the day she went missing. As Salander and Blomkvist dig deeper into the past, they find themselves entangled in an incredibly dangerous set of circumstances. Fans of nail-biting dramas may also enjoy other Swedish thrillers. In fact, "Let the Right One In," a tale about a young outcast who unknowingly befriends a vampire, was filmed in the Scandinavian country as well.
