Colin Firth is captivating in "A Single Man"

Tom Ford is known for creating beautiful clothes, but the haute couture designer also has a knack for filmmaking as well. His feature-film debut, "A Single Man," will be available on DVD July 6. Colin Firth is equally as riveting as George Falconer, a gay professor living during the 1960s. After his lover, Jim (Matthew Goode), passes way suddenly, he finds it hard to summon the strength to go on. The film follows George during a single day of his life. Through his adventures we see him have dinner with his best friend Charley (Julianne Moore) and spend an evening with one of his students, Kenny (Nicholas Hoult). However, there is something horrific brewing under the surface of his routine. Firth was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the film, and some were surprised it was his first. However, the veteran British actor was nominated for a BAFTA for his work in "Bridget Jones's Diary" and earned an Emmy nomination for "Conspiracy," a 2001 television movie.
