Print this article "The Crazies," a remake of a 1973 movie of the same name, should be commended - it manages to capture the intrigue, fear and high-intensity horror of the original. Luckily for home audiences, the film will be released on DVD on June 29.
The film takes place in the small town of Ogden Marsh, Iowa, where a small plane has crashed and released a toxin into the water. The incident leaves some fatally sick, while others turn homicidal.
At the center of it all is Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant), who tries his best to solve the problem. However, as time goes on, the toxin starts to affect his family and the townspeople find themselves struggling to survive.
"The Crazies" was helmed by Breck Eisner, who has many respectable movies under his belt. The talented guy directed the 2005 action-comedy "Sahara," which starred Penelope Cruz, Steve Zahn and Matthew McConaughey.
Eisner also has many other interesting projects in development at the moment. In fact, he is rumored to be directing the remake of "Flash Gordon," which is expected to be released in theaters in 2012.
