The adventures of Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton will continue for at least another year. According to the Hollywood Reporter, "True Blood" has already been picked up for a fourth season.

This is both exciting and surprising news for fans, as the third season began a little over a week ago. However, it's apparent the premium cable network is hoping to keep the successful series on the air for as long as possible, as 5.1 million viewers tuned for the recent premiere.

"The new season of 'True Blood' is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics," Michael Lombardo, President of HBO, said in a statement to the press. "We're looking forward to more chills from Alan Ball and his gifted team next year."

It looks like Ball's career in television is going strong, as he was also responsible for creating another extremely beloved show on the same network, "Six Feet Under." However, Ball is also known for penning the emotional and intense "American Beauty," for which he won an Academy Award.ADNFCR-2673-ID-19850355-ADNFCR
