Shooting has begun for "Atlas Shrugged"

There have been rumors of a film adaptation of Ayn Rand's cherished book, "Atlas Shrugged," for years now, but it looks like the dystopian novel is officially silver-screen bound. According to Variety, shooting on the film "Atlas Shrugged: Part One" finally began this weekend in Los Angeles. This news has been a long time coming, as the rights to the infamous tome were bought by exercise equipment mogul John Aglialoro 17 years ago for $1 million. The upcoming project, which will be independently-made, is reported to have a $5 million budget. The star and director of the movie is an interesting one. Paul Johansson, who is best known by audiences as the character Dan Scott on the WB series "One Tree Hill," will be taking on both lead acting and helming duties. "Atlas Shrugged" was Rand's longest and last novel. It was met with mediocre reception when it was released in 1957, but has accrued a cult following since then. Scott also appeared in the films "Alpha Dog" as well as "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day."
