Only a year after the death of Bea Arthur and two years after the passing of Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan died this morning after suffering a massive stroke. The actress was 76 years old.

Best known for playing the quick-witted, saucy Blanche Devereaux on the hit show "The Golden Girls," McClanahan was beloved by fans for her unique acting style and spot-on comedic timing.

The actress caught the showbiz bug early in her youth. After performing in theater for much of her life, she was cast in a recurring role in "All in the Family" and later played the character Vivian Cavender Harmon, alongside Bea Arthur, on the hit sitcom "Maude."

McClanahan was nominated for four Emmys during her run on the hilarious series, winning in 1985. She also picked up three Golden Globe nominations during her tenure on the show.

Betty White, who played Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls, released a statement to the press about McClanahan's passing.

"Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that's even possible," she said.ADNFCR-2673-ID-19817756-ADNFCR
