Michael Bay on tap to direct "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" remake

Michael Bay may be feeling nostalgic about the '80s and the '90s lately. According to Deadline.com, the "Transformers" director will be producing a live-action reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." The news source reports that Bay and his production studio Platinum Dunes will begin meetings with writers in the coming weeks. The film is also being produced by Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures. MTV.com spoke with TMNT creator Peter Laird in 2008, who was thrilled about the project. "I can say that at this point there are a lot of positive feelings about a 'Batman Begins'-style 'reboot,' which would, of necessity, include a retelling of the Turtles' origin story," he told the news source. The plan to bring the franchise back to the big screen is hardly surprising news, as the live-action and cartoon versions of the series were overwhelmingly popular for youngsters. In fact, the combined total of the three feature films tallied over $250 million in the United States alone.
