Woody Harrelson gets serious in "The Messenger"

Print this article "The Messenger," which stars Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster, will be out on DVD on May 18. The war drama was nominated for two Oscars this past year, which included Best Supporting Actor for Harrelson.
"The Messenger" tells the story of Will Montgomery (Foster), a US Army Staff Sergeant who is injured in Iraq and sent back to the United States. Once there, he is assigned to the Causality Notification Team, which informs immediate family members that their loved one has died in service to their country.
Will is led by Captain Tony Stone (Harrelson), who is extremely experienced with the process. When the pair meets Olivia Pitterson (Samantha Morton), Will becomes intrigued by her reaction to their devastating news.
"The Messenger" also stars former "Donnie Darko" star Jena Malone as Kelly, as well as "Reservoir Dogs" and "Fargo" star Steve Buscemi as Dale Martin.
The film marks the second time Harrelson has received a nod from the Academy. The talented and versatile actor garnered a nomination in 1996 for his performance in "The People vs. Larry Flynt."
